EMERGENCY ACTIONS

This page is to help you through an unfolding incident.  Hit the button for specific information and helpful hints on how to get things done.  Good Luck!

ISOLATE
ISOLATE
 
  • If you are the first responder - Move people away from the incident zone

    • Ambulant persons First​

    • Persons requiring assistance Next

    • Rescue - after egress is clear (or report for emergency services)

  • If you are leading a team, instruct your team to move all persons away from the incident zone

  • Make sure a report of area cleared is given

 

Use this time to assess the incident further and report accordingly.

CONTAIN
CONTAIN
 

Contain the incident (stop the spread)

  • Close doors and windows

  • Extinguish if possible

  • Restrict movement of dangers out of zone

 

Contain the area (secure the area)

  • Close off access as much as possible

  • Place Wardens at entry points to advise people not to enter

  • Make sure you still allow emergency services access

 

Only do this for as long as it is safe to do so

Lock-Down

  • Make an announcement - either via PA or pass on through the team

  • Instruct everyone to hide and turn mobile phones to silent, remember:

    • Locks (Lock any lock that can be locked - or barricade)​

    • Lights (Turn off lights if possible)

    • Out of Sight (Stay out of sight - no matter what noises are heard)

  • For as long as it is safe - Have the Wardens patrol and make sure as many people as possible have complied - Then make sure the Warden Team hide as well

 

Lock-In

  • Gather the Warden Team

  • Place Wardens at Exit Points

  • Make an announcement - either via PA or through the team

  • Monitor the situation and be prepared to revise actions as required

 

Lock-Out

  • Notify Others to Stay Away (you can do this for LEAVE as well)

Full Evacuation

  • Gather and communicate with the Warden Team

  • Nominate an Assembly Area Warden (this can be the first team member to arrive at the assembly area)

  • Make an announcement - either via PA or pass on through the team

  • If premise has an alarm - activate Evacuation Tone

  • Have Warden Team search all areas and gather, or inform, ALL persons to leave and attend the safe assembly area

  • Have Warden Team report when each area has been cleared

  • Ensure all persons at Assembly Area are accounted for and perform a roll call if required

  • Have Wardens monitor evacuated persons to ensure safety and well-being

  • Monitor the situation and be prepared to revise actions as required

 

Partial Evacuation

  • Gather and communicate with the Warden Team

  • Make an announcement - either via PA or pass on through the team

  • Instruct everyone to move away from the incident zone:

    • Allocate an area within the premise to go to

    • Ensure to move away from the Incident Zone (where possible - do not move through it)

    • Monitor the situation and be prepared to revise actions as required

  • For as long as it is safe - Have the Wardens patrol incident zone perimeter and ensure no person enters without authority

  • Have Wardens monitor evacuated persons to ensure safety and well-being

Start Taking Notes:

  • Use your phone, a notepad, a whiteboard

  • Note Start Time of incident

  • Note reports of incident details

 

Keep Taking Notes:

  • Note Instructions Given

  • Note Reports received

  • Basically, write as much as you can.

 

Make sure you Note the Time when you make an entry

 

Notes will be really important for Emergency Service hand-overs, as well as reviewing the incident actions after the event.
